It was a cool and cloudy day at Diablo Creek Golf Course for our annual Director's Cup, the last major tournament of this fiscal year. For the first time in recent memories, the lowest handicap player of our club has won the Director's Cup that has traditionally been dominated by higher handicap players. The hot putter of David Yip put everyone to his/her knees with a sizzling one under par score of 70 with a net of score of 67 and would have take home the prized trophy, which has gone missing since our last year's winner did not bother to show up to defend his title and to relinquish the trophy. The trophy police has been notified and will be knocking on his door soon...
Final results are as follows:
Field low net - David Yip
A Flight low net - Alex Fong (won on tie breaker)
A Flight second net - Stuart Lum
B Flight low net - Jason Ma
B Flight second net - Alan Whiteside (with a two stoke penalty because his group was five minutes late in turning his their score card.)
Ladies Flight low net - Alice Wong
Ladies Flight second net - Jeanne Yip
Closest to the hole : Joe Young, Johnny Mui, Steve Liu, Sandy Kiyomura
Skins: There were five skins with a pay-out of $38 per skin with winners as follows: Judy Eng, Frank Chiang, Stuart Lum, Tom Yong, Mark Wong.
For those of you who did not stay around to receive your winnings, better sign up for the next tournament to claim your prizes...or I'll double or lose them for you in Reno...
Congratulations to all winners.
Reminder: The deadline for signing up for our year end Hugh Lee Tournament of Champions at Blue Rock East is fast approaching. What are you waiting for?

OCGC - Club Championship results
It was two days of bright sunshine with mild to gusty wind, just enough to affect the ball flights to make club selection a little tougher. At the end, the cream raised to the top as usual and the "David and Kim show" continues with each of them retained their respective perpetual trophy three years running. For the first time in recent memory, we did not have a Calcutta for this year's Club Championship as participation was so low that whoever were there were only betting on their own money. Instead, we instituted the "Horse race", where you purchased a $2.00 ticket and picked the combination of two players as your "horses" hoping that their combined net scores were the lowest in the field and to win 50% of the total pot. When all the dusts were settled, Alex "lucky" Fong and Joe Young emerged with the picks of two thoroughbreds of Joe Young and Steve Tong to tie for the lowest combined net scores, thus split 80% of the pot for $79 a piece. The last piece of the pie for the remaining 20% were split between Alice Wong, Alan Whiteside, and Roland Kutaka for $13 a piece.
Speaking of "Lucky" Alex, besides hauling in the "horse race", he also won skins for both rounds, $52 and $44 plus closest to two holes at Shadow Lakes. Thus, we were financing his entry fee to this tournament plus interest...Too bad that the money must have weighted him down for the second round at Poppy Ridge as he faltered his three shots lead and Mighty Joe Young sneaked in to steal the A flight's low net away from him.
The award dinner at Willow Tree Restaurant was at their usual best.
The winners are as follows:
Field Low Gross - David Yip
Field Low Net - Steve Tong
A Flight Low Net - Joe Young
B Flight Low Net - Vernon Takasuka
Ladies Low Net - Kim Shek
Closest to the hole - Shadow Lakes - Alex Fong, Steve Tong, Yoch Lin, and Candy Tom
There were no KP at Poppy Ridge
Skins: Shadow Lakes - Alice Wong, Alex Fong, Chris Lang, Terry Owyang
Skins: Poppy Ridge - Alice Wong, Alex Fong, Robert Hemphill, John O'Shaughnessy (2)
Congratulations to all winners!

Chardonnay Results
It was a nice and warm day with slight windy condition in the beautiful Napa Valley where 43 souls enjoyed a splendid day of golf. The newly reconfigured 18 holes layout was quite a challenge for most of us. The pace of play was markedly improved as every group turned in their score cards with plentyof time to spare except for the group of Sam, Vernon, Dexter, and Harry who did not pay attention to the warning of not going to their cars first. With the help of Mei-mei, they managed to turn in their card with only a minute to spare.
The results are as follows:
Men's A flight - First net - Doug Low, net 69 (his score per his card was a net 70 due to someone in his group couldn't add properly)
Second net - David Yip, net 70
Third net - Joe Young, net 71 (won on tie-breaker)
Men's B flight - First net - Jimmy Leung, net 71
Second net - William Wallace, net 72
Third net - Johnny Mui, net 73 (won on tie-breaker)
Ladies flight - First net - Shirley Lee, net 66
Second net - Judy Eng, net 68
There were six closest to the hole contests where everyone had four chances to win one of them. However, no one was able to win more than one prize. The winners are:
Men's A flight, hole #3 - Joe Young - 16' 1/2"
Men's B flight, hole #5 - Johnny Mui - 11' 1"
Ladies flight, hole #14 - Mei-Mei Hong - 20' 4"
All flights, hole #8 - Jesmer Lorenzo - 11'
hole #12 - Alex Fong - 18' 11"
hole #16 - Victor Jin - 8' 7"
There were 7 skins that paid $47 for each skin. The winners are as follows:
David Yip, holes #7 and #15
Kenny Fong - hole #9
Mark Wong - hole #14
Victor Jin - hole #10
Caxton Rhodes - hole #5
Vernon Takasuka - hole 16

OCGC - Franklin Canyon Results
It was a mostly calm day at Franklin Canyon for this year first fun team event of two-person net best ball. The course was in relatively good shape, but the greens were aerated a few weeks ago with questionable breaks and speed. However, good scores abound despite the bumpy greens.
The team of KK Tong and Victor Gin, ham and egging it so well that they lapsed the field with a net best ball score of 56. The team of Alice Wong and Valerie Yee came in with a sizzling 61, which tied Stephen Tong and Kenny Thaxton's team with the same score. However, due to the ladies' course rating was 1.5 strokes higher than the guys, Alice and Valerie captured second place with an adjusted net score of 59. Sorry, Stephen and Kenny, better luck next time, third place was still good. All winners received gift cards for the pro shop.

Tournament Rules:
- USGA rules govern all play.
- Men play from the middle tees (white), ladies play from the forward tees (red)
- Play ready golf when it is safe to do so. Keep pace with the group in front of you. DON’T LOOK BACK!
- Summer rules, play the ball at it lies.
- Each player plays his/her own ball as stroke play, but enter as the team score the best net score between the team members. You may pick up, if your partner has already holed out for a better net score for the hole, and enter an “X” as your score for that hole. For posting purposes, use the “equitable stroke controls” to determine what you would have made on that hole.
-
The 20 minutes time clock will be in effect. Your group’s two score cards must be turned into the scorer’s table within 20 minutes of the group in front of you. Penalty: two strokes will be added to both teams’ final net scores. DO NOT GO TO YOUR CAR FIRST! - Local Rules:
Out of bounds – all boundary fences and the maintenance yard on hole #9 and area marked by white- stakes are out of bound. Penalty – stroke and distance
Canyon and streams are played as lateral hazard. -
Tie-breaker: The team with the lower team handicap will prevail.

2010 Marc Rice Memorial Tournament Results
It was a warm and sunny day with 36 souls eyeing for the Marc Rice perpetual trophies at the tough tracks of Boundary Oak Golf Course in Walnut Creek. The course itself was in good condition, but the greens were recently aerated and putting was a guessing game at best. However, good scores abound and at the end, we have five players tied for the low net of 68, by the tie breaking rules established by the club years ago, Mighty Joe Young, your tournament co-chair, emerged as victor to clam the Field Low Net prize. Alice Wong narrowly defeated Joyce Shao to claim the lady’s low net trophy. The award dinner at the Imperial Seafood Restaurant was also a winner, thanks to Doug Low, who pitched in to reserve the restaurant and selected the menu for us. The entire field winners are as follows:
Field Low Net – Joe Young
Men’s A flight – 1st net – Sam Tong; 2nd net – Lawrence Wong
Men’s B flight – 1st net – Caxton Rhodes; 2nd net – Ken Wong

2010 Rancho Solano results
It was a windless, sunny and warm day for our first tournament of 2010 with 34 brave souls frolicking in the undulated big greens of Rancho Solano Golf Course. However, the scores were not reflective of the calm condition of the course especially when we were playing winter rules through the greens for the event. For the first time in awhile, the 20 minutes time clock was in effect and all players were warned not to go to their cars after completion of their rounds and to turn in their score cards as soon as they have signed and attested to the scores. The last group, however, was the recipient of the first ever assessed two strokes penalty for each member of the group. Despite the additional penalty strokes, Terry Owyang, Mr. Luckydog, won the A flight with a net score of 69 (67 + 2 penalty strokes). The entire field winners are as follows:
A Flight: Terry Owyang – 69; Lawrence Wong – 70; Joe Young – 71
B Flight: Caxton Rhodes – 70; William Wallace – 74; Stephen Tong - 77 (won on tie-breaker over KK Tong)
Ladies Flight: Alice Wong – 66; Jadine Tome – 72
KP: Hole #5 – Sam Tong; Hole #8 – Caxton Rhodes; Hole #12 – Joe Young; Hole # 15 – Carol Ung
Skins: Payout $62 per skin – Hole #3 – Sam Tong; hole # 6 & #8 – Jadine Tom; Hole #9 – Lawrence Wong; Hole #17 – Terry Owyang
Congratulations to all winners and don’t forget to sign up for the Marc Rice Tournament in April.

2009 Daimo Cup results
Congratulations to Shirley Lee for winning the 2009 Daimo Cup with a net score of 65, lapping the field with a three shots win. The course was in great condition with tight fairways and fast greens. Most of the big hitters were succumbed to the tough track. Can’t blame the high scores on the weather as it was warm and very little wind. The winners are as follows:
A flight – Sam Tong – Net 69 (won on tie-breaker over Jasmer Lorenzo with a lower handicap)
B flight – Johnny Mui – Net 70
Ladies flight – Shirley Lee – Net 65
Closest to the hole: #3 – B Flight – None
#8 – A flight – Yoch Lin
#12 All flight – Erwin Young (guest)
#15 Ladies flight – Kim Shek
There were no skins as all holes were tied. If you have signed up for skin, check with Terry Owyang for a refund.
