Mare Island Results

56 players signed up for Mare Island, but only 36 trekked out to Mare Island despite ominous skies and intermittent showers. 34 players actually made it out onto the golf course (Hugh Lee and Bet Lai showed up to provide moral support but did not play).

The course was in fairly good condition considering how much rain had dropped in the previous few days. There were only 1 or 2 very brief drizzle showers where an umbrella or rain jacket weren’t even needed. Also, the sun actually made a cameo appearance for a few holes during the round. All in all, it was a relatively dry day for golf and shame on those who didn’t come out because of a little wetness.

Remember to turn in your scorecards before you leave, even if you are in a hurry. Without your scorecards, we cannot tabulate your scores and thus you will be ineligible to win any prizes or skins. Congratulations to Yoch Lin and Al Lim for placing 1st low net in the A and B flights, respectively. The results are posted as follows:

OCGC Mare Island Starting Tee Times

Please pick up official scorecards at the first tee. They are located inside the plastic Ziploc bag along with the Skins envelope.

We will be playing WINTER RULES – you are allowed to lift, clean, and place your ball within 6 inches (no closer to the hole) when it is in the FAIRWAY. Play the ball as it lies in the rough. Plugged balls (not in a hazard) are lift, clean, and drop. Free relief from casual water.

Tees: Men – Blue (6150 yds); Women – Red (5336 yds)

Format is medal play. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd low net in both A and B flights. Tiebreakers used for ties in low net scores.

Closest to the pin prizes for both A and B flights on Holes 3 and 15.

Since this is a regular tournament, there are no gimmes. Putt everything out.

Remember to post your own adjusted scores after the round. We do not post your scores for you. Even if you forget, you can post it online at the NCGA website.

Rio Vista Results

The Golf Gods answered our prayers as the Oakland Chinese Golf Club kicked off its first tournament of the new year without any rain. 45 optimistic members and guests made it out to Rio Vista for a dry, fun-filled day of golf. At the end, Ray Jeung (79) blew away the field with a low net of 63, while Joe Young (78, net 66) and Seewell Leung (76, net 67 tie-break) finished second and third respectively.

Although the top 3 were guaranteed extra tickets for the raffle, they weren’t guaranteed to win the top prizes. Over $600 worth of prizes were raffled off where the winners were able to choose their prizes, except for the 4 major prizes that were raffled off at the very end. Also, new members and guests received a sleeve of balls as a token of the club’s appreciation.

Congratulations to Ray Jeung and to everyone who was “lucky” enough to win prizes. Check back later for updated Player of the Year (POY) standings. Here are the results:

It must be noted that the staff at Rio Vista were first class. They were very friendly and professional and were eager to make us feel welcome. They gave some of us free range balls and beer, gave us a 20% discount on merchandise and also gave us the complimentary certificate for a free round of golf for 4 that was raffled off. I highly recommend that we come back here for future tournaments as they went out of their way to accommodate us. It was a great turnout and thanks to everyone for making this a fun event.

OCGC Tournament - Blue Rock West

The Oakland Chinese Golf Club welcomes you to test out the upgraded west course of Blue Rock Springs on Sunday, Dec. 10.

The format of the tournament will be a raffle tournament. Raffle tickets will be distributed so forth:

To ensure an acceptable speed of play, we will be playing that all putts within the leather (ball is within the length of a standard putter grip) are gimmes. Also, if you feel that you are not in the running for the low net scores for the tournament, you may pick up your ball once you reach your ESC (Equitable Stroke Control) maximum # of strokes on a hole. The ESC chart is shown below. If you do decide not to finish any of the holes and do pick up your ball, please place an X by your name on your official scorecard so that we know that we shouldn’t consider you for the low net scores for the tournament.

2006 OCGC Daimo Cup Results – Deer Ridge

With perfect weather and good course conditions at Deer Ridge, Jadine Tom emerged from the field of 32 players as the 2006 Daimo Cup champion. Scoring a net 64, Jadine accumulated 19 points under the modified Stableford scoring system to win by 3 points. Jadine not only will have her name permanently engraved on the Daimo Cup, but also received $100 gift certificate from KK Tong to be redeemed at his restaurant. Battling through 5 tough matches, our 2006 OCGC match play champion is Caxton Rhodes. His final match was a 6&4 win over Hugh Lee at Metropolitan Golf Course. Caxton wins $235 for his victory and gets his name engraved on the perpetual match play trophy.

Congratulations to Jason Jeung on yet another victory this season. He shot a 102 on a very tough Diablo Grande - Ranch course where the slope from the white tees were 133. With a handicap of 28, that makes a net round of 74. He tied with 2 other players (Sewell Leung and William Tong) at net 74 but he won on the tiebreaker. He is the winner of the TOC trophy and $50. 2006 OCGC Match Play Championship Rules

OCGC 2006 Match Play Championship

Hello to all OCGC Match Play participants. Welcome to another year of exciting play. As in years past, this is a one-on-one, single elimination event. All players will have one month to complete their matches beginning on June 19^th and culminating on or prior to November 19^th. We will know then who our new 2006 Match Play Champion will be.

Opening matches will begin immediately with the following considerations:

1. 100% difference of handicap strokes to be given to the higher handicapper.

a. Using your most current indexes, find the handicaps on the slope charts at the course selected. In coed matches, remember to see if additional handicap adjustment is necessary by find the “course ratings” for the red and white tees. If the difference is 0.5 or greater, further adjustment is needed. Determine the difference and round off to the nearest whole number (0.5 or greater will be rounded up). This whole number should be added to the handicap of the player who is playing from the more highly rated tees. If the player receiving strokes is female, be sure they are given on the women’s rated holes, not the men’s.

2. Within same sex matches, the higher handicapper will designate which of 3 courses the lower handicapper may choose to play.

a. In co-ed matches, the female player will designate the 3 courses even if her handicap is lower than that of the male player’s.

3. Players shall play their matches on a mutually agreeable date, women from the red tees and men from the white tees.
4. A progressive cash prize will be awarded for match winners.
5. Only winners will be paid.
6. All monies will be paid at the conclusion of the final round (Championship).
7. A winner of each match must be determined by the stated deadline, and reported to me immediately after the match. NO exceptions.

a. If a match date cannot be mutually agreed upon within the stated time frames for each round, the players can have a putting contest, flip a coin, etc., It does not matter so long as the method is mutually agreed upon. A name must be provided to me or both will be eliminated.

8. Players may choose to use the monthly OCGC tournament as their match site. They may match cards at the end of the tournament if they are not paired together.
9. As far as ties goes, ask the starter if you can play sudden death. If not, have a putting contest. In either case, the player who last held the “honor” should continue.
10. If any conflicts cannot be resolved, the NCGA rules for match play are to be followed. Information with respect to this can be found at the NCGA website at http://www.usga.org/rules/faq/index.html
11. Any controversies arising on any hole must be resolved before the next hole is played. However, if unable to resolve, you may play a second ball until the controversy is resolved.
12. If resolution is still not made, FINAL determination will be decided by a committee comprised of three members from the OCGC Board of Directors.

Prizes:

The $20 entry fees from the 32 entrants and the $200 club contribution will provide for a total pot of $840. The 1^st match winners will receive $20 each; 2^nd match winners $25; 3^rd match winners $30; and 4^th match winners $40. The final round (Championship) between the remaining 2 players is worth $120 to the winner.
