OCGC Calcutta Night

August 4, 2005

OCGC Calcutta Night is open to all members. There is a free dinner and afterwards an auction. You will be bidding for the right to purchase the golfer who you think will have the lowest total net score in the club championship tournament.

The bidding is actually split into two pots. . . the A flight and the B flight. There will be cash prizes for the first three places in each flight. If you are lucky enough to buy a player, you must offer that person the right to purchase at least 50% of him/herself. He/she may or may not decline. You may also negotiate the percentages to anything you want, but remember you must offer at least 50% to your player.

Let me give you a simple example -- let’s say I bought player A for $20. I offer 50% of himself and he accepts. He pays me $10. Player A wins club championship and 1st place cash prize is $500. I will give player 50% or $250 of my winnings. Not a bad investment, for only $10, I’ve made a net income of $240!

You may form a partnership with one or more other club members. By pooling your money together you afford to bid higher or purchase more players and increase your chances. One person representing the partnership will be financially responsible for the purchase. It is up to that person to figure out who owes what to whom.

Tip: If you’re playing good, don’t tell anyone. If you’re playing bad, bid yourself up to what you think is the crest of your purchase then stop. Warning - don’t overestimate your worth.

Payment is due on the day of Calcutta Night - no credit given so bring your $$$ or checks. Winners will be paid on the evening of the championship awards dinner, August 14, 2005.

OCGC Match Play Rules

OCGC 2005 Match Play Championship

Hello to all OCGC Match Play participants. Welcome to another year of exciting play. As in years past, this is a one-on-one, single elimination event. All players will have one month to complete their matches beginning on June 15th and culminating on or prior to November 6th. We will know then who our new 2005 Match Play Champion will be.

Opening matches will begin immediately with the following considerations:

1. 100% difference of handicap strokes to be given to the higher handicapper.
a. Using your most current indexes, find the handicaps on the slope charts at the course selected. In coed matches, remember to see if additional handicap adjustment is necessary by find the “course ratings” for the red and white tees. If the difference is 0.5 or greater, further adjustment is needed. Determine the difference and round off to the nearest whole number (0.5 or greater will be rounded up). This whole number should be added to the handicap of the player who is playing from the more highly rated tees. If the player receiving strokes is female, be sure they are given on the women’s rated holes, not the men’s.

2. Within same sex matches, the higher handicapper will designate which of 3 courses the lower handicapper may choose to play.
a. In co-ed matches, the female player will designate the 3 courses even if her handicap is lower than that of the male player’s.

3. Players shall play their matches on a mutually agreeable date, women from the red tees and men from the white tees.

4. A progressive cash prize will be awarded for match winners.

5. Only winners will be paid.

6. All monies will be paid at the conclusion of the final round (Championship).

7. A winner of each match must be determined by the stated deadline, and reported to me immediately after the match. NO exceptions.
a. If a match date cannot be mutually agreed upon within the stated time frames for each round, the players can have a putting contest, flip a coin, etc., It does not matter so long as the method is mutually agreed upon. A name must be provided to me or both will be eliminated.

8. Players may choose to use the monthly OCGC tournament as their match site. They may match cards at the end of the tournament if they are not paired together.

9. As far as ties goes, ask the starter if you can play sudden death. If not, have a putting contest. In either case, the player who last held the “honor” should continue.

10. If any conflicts cannot be resolved, the NCGA rules for match play are to be followed. Information with respect to this can be found at the NCGA website at http://www.usga.org/rules/faq/index.html

11. Any controversies arising on any hole must be resolved before the next hole is played. However, if unable to resolve, you may play a second ball until the controversy is resolved.

12. If resolution is still not made, FINAL determination will be decided by a committee comprised of three members from the OCGC Board of Directors.

Prizes:
The $25 entry fees from the 32 entrants and the $190 club contribution will provide for a total pot of $990. The 1st match winners will receive $25 each; 2nd match winners $30; 3rd match winners $35; and 4th match winners $45. The final round (Championship) between the remaining 2 players is worth $120 to the winner.

COST: $25

Rooster Run Golf Tournament Results

** NCGA QUALIFIER Sunday March 13, 2005 **

Thank you for the great turnout (48 players). Although it was a bit windy, we hope everybody had a good time! Sorry for the delay with the results as I found scoring errors on every card (even mine). Also, only 5 or 12 cards were properly signed and attested. I will email the Excel scorecard to all participants.

There was a tie at 153 for Team (Alex, Ben, Doug, Victor) and Team (George, Terry, Chris, Yoch). Using the USGA tie breaker, the last 9 hole score was also a tie at 80. The 2nd tie breaker of last 6 hole score gives Team (Alex, Ben, Doug, Victor) a one stroke edge!

1st Place = Alex, Ben, Doug, Victor ($160)
Runner up = George, Terry, Chris, Yoch ($100)

CTP @ $25 each
Hole #2 = George Kong @ 10'
Hole #6 = George Kong @ 5'4"
Hole #15 = Joe Young @ 11'1"
Hole #17 = Lawrence Wong @ 8'11"

1 SKIN - Joe Young Birdie with pop on #14 (Par 4 353 yd) = ($340)

FORMAT: 4 person Best + Worst Net balls - Take the total of the highest and lowest net scores for each hole as your team score. The maximum worst net ball score is triple bogey. I figure the winning team of this tournament will be the best representating team of OCGC for the easier NCGA 4 person 2 best ball team competition.
