NCGA Qualifier Update

This is an update of our Chardonnay tournament where the original team of David Yip, Mike Chee, Clem Leung, and Joe Young won the right to represent OCGC at the local qualifier for the NCGA Associate Club Championship. Due to scheduling conflicts, club members/ringers Ray Jeung and Ben Lee substituted in to form “Dream Team II". On June 6, the team of David, Mike, Ray and Ben teed off at Franklin Canyon from the white tees (Holes 1 and 18 were converted to par 4s) and shot a net 123, 17-under to finish tied for second place. Because of their outstanding finish, they now will advance to compete at Poppy Ridge on July 23 for the sectional qualifier, with the entry fee picked up by the club.

In addition, on June 7 David Yip competed individually at Metropolitan in the qualifier for the Master Division Championship. To be eligible for this NCGA tournament, a player must be between 40 and 55 (rumor has it that David just made the minimum age requirement) and have an index of 5.4 or less. David tied for 6th, which qualified him to advance to the Championship proper for a 2-day, 36 hole trip to Spyglass.

Congratulations to them for a job well done in representing OCGC at the NGCA qualifiers. Good luck to them at the next stage and may they bring home the hardware!
